Minutes
The minutes from the December 8, 2016 meeting were approved as written.
Town Gym
Floor. New England Sports Flooring is scheduled to come on Friday, January 13, to examine the gym floor as a third party expert. Celeste has put together a draft history of the Town Gym and the gym floor replacement and maintenance. We will try to separate the issues of the floor failure and the floor finish, by asking 1) how long the floor is likely to last, 2) whether finish patching would work and 3) whether it is worth it to do a full sand and recoat.
ConVal agreement. The Town Gym agreement was on the ConVal Budget & Property meeting agenda. Bob Edwards, who attended the meeting, may be able to tell us what transpired. The School Board is planning a huge renovation project for the high school.
Other. Tim Conway has asked for suggestions for an internship project. We will recommend working on the communication issue and establishing best practices for use and maintenance of the shared Town Gym. Once again, the District locksmiths changed the locks on the gym doors without notifying anyone at the Rec Department or providing keys.
Shea Field
Ice Skating. The ice skating rink will be set up on Saturday and the fire department will fill it on Sunday. To level the surface, Rec. Dept. personnel have been working on clearing hard-frozen wood-chip-filled snowballs that GBS students rolled from the playground down the hill onto the infield. Celeste purchased a lightweight electric snowthrower for use at the ice rink and possibly the beach.
ConVal agreement. No news -- maybe late January.
Memorial Park
Maintenance. The bandstand spire is still there, but breaking apart. We haven’t received an estimate on repair costs or feasibility.
Recreation Department
Update. Lisa & Celeste are running a Geoquest program on six Wednesdays after school. Basketball and futsal have started, and Celeste is beginning to put together summer programs.
Gregg Lake
Watershed Management Plan Grant. We were invited to continue with the application process after submitting the Pre-proposal for funds from NHDES/EPA to support development of a Gregg Lake watershed management plan. The full application is due on January 31.
Beach. Celeste contacted the owner of a bobhouse that had been pulled up on the public beach. He promised to move it to the boat launch as soon as possible.
The next regularly scheduled Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting will be Thursday, February 9th at 7:00 pm at the Rec Office.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.
